Local authorities in Tyne and Wear say they will not be financially impacted by reduced traffic volumes through the tolled Tyne Tunnels caused by Covid-19.
Traffic through the tunnels (one northbound and one southbound) normally amounts to about 55,000 vehicles a day but fell to about 17,000 (30 per cent of normal levels) during the lockdown last spring.
