Highways England is continuing to issue more than two million penalty charge notices a year against drivers who fail to pay for using the Dartford Crossings – the two tunnels and bridge that carry M25 traffic across the Thames.

The toll booths at the crossings were removed in November 2014 when ‘free-flow’ tolling was introduced. Since then, motorists have had to pay the Dart charge in advance or by midnight the day after crossing.
