Lockdown travel restrictions linked to fall in road deaths

There were 1,460 reported road deaths in the UK in 2020, a decrease of 17% from the previous year, latest Government figures show. The drop in fatalities last year is linked to the reduction in road traffic in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the DfT suggests.

Road user groups saw a fall in fatalities in 2020 compared with the previous year, with the exception of pedal cyclists where it rose 41% from 100 to 141.
