The final phase of a new multi-storey car park at Bedford Avenue in Slough has been completed. The car park includes a glass and living wall façade treatment and external soft landscaping.

The project is a collaboration between the Slough Trading Estate and Bourne Parking’s in-house design & build team.

As the main contractor, Bourne Parking’s turnkey solution was developed on a steel frame and Montex flooring flat-deck configuration across the ground floor and two suspended decks with internal ramp.

Bourne Parking’s scope included the substructure, below ground drainage, new grade level surfacing, vehicle barriers, top deck waterproofing, above ground drainage, white lining, low energy lighting, two precast concrete stair cores with glazed curtain walling, enhanced internal finishes and soft landscaping.

The parking layout provides 224 spaces, including seven accessible spaces and 12 electric vehicle charging bays.

The green wall elevational treatment comprises solid fire break panels fixed with planting troughs including an integral irrigation system, fed from a rainwater harvesting water tank, which allows the planting to grow without the use of harmful chemicals with minimal intervention. The green infrastructure filters out up to 95% of the pollutants generated by vehicles and industry.

Bourne said a living wall allows what would otherwise be a large expanse of wasted façade to become an air purification system.

Bourne Parking managing director, Karl Butters said: “Despite the challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are delighted to launch this sustainable car park at Bedford Avenue, which reflects our turnkey specialism and commitment to sustainable solutions and greener communities.”
