The DfT is now digesting responses from councils and Sub-National Transport Bodies as it reviews the Major Road Network programme. It recently wrote to them warning  that reduced funding makes reductions to the MRN programme inevitable and inviting them to reconsider schemes they were promoting. Few seem keen to do so.

The letter reflected the Spending Review announced last autumn but was ahead of this week’s Spring Statement, which made no reference to transport spending.
