People travelling in autonomous cars will be able to watch videos under proposed changes to the Highway Code. However, they will have to be ready to take back control of vehicles when prompted, said the DfT.

It will remain illegal to use mobile phones even when in self-driving mode “given the greater risk they pose in distracting drivers as shown in research”.
