Further £155m support announced for bus industry

Prime minister Rishi Sunak has announced a new government package of support to the bus industry to extend the £2 bus fare cap and protect bus services with a total of £155m of new funding.

The deal appeared to have been the subject of tense negotiations between the industry, local transport authorities and Department for Transport as fears grew of major service cutbacks by operators whose finances are still damaged by a drop in demand from the pandemic.
