‘Bus and coach drivers should be on Shortage Occupation List’ says CPT

21 June 2023

CPT has submitted an in-depth response to the Migration Advisory Committee calling for bus and coach drivers to be added to the Shortage Occupation List.

Keith McNally, operations director at the Confederation of Passenger Transport, said:

"Despite a range of industry initiatives to recruit and retain more drivers, many operators are still experiencing significant staff shortages, with CPT’s latest member survey showing a coach vacancy rate of 14.6% and bus at 6.8%.

“This is why CPT consulted its members about making a case to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to include bus and coach drivers on the Shortage Occupational List (SOL) to enable operators to recruit from abroad.  Both our member policy-making bodies - the Bus and Coach Commissions – agreed, and in May 2023, CPT submitted a detailed response to the MAC’s call for evidence.”
