No correlation 20mph between exceptions and safety improvement in Wales

There were large variations in the percentages of restricted roads which were excepted from the 20mph default limit in September. Swansea and Bridgend councils excepted more than 10% of their roads. At the other extreme, Denbighshire excepted only 0.6% and Conwy 0.8% (both being in North Wales).

LTT drilled down into the STATS19 collision data to see if the cautious approach in North Wales had produced bigger safety benefits. The reduction in collisions on 20mph and 30mph roads in Q4 2023,...
