TfL plans cross-river tolls for Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels

Charges for using Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels will be introduced in 2025, Transport for London (TfL) has announced. 

Blackwall Tunnel, which runs under the Thames, has been free to use since it opened in 1897.

Construction work on Silvertown Tunnel, which will link Newham to the Greenwich peninsula under the Thames, started in 2022. It is due to open in spring 2025.

A consultation on charge levels is now open and will run until 3 September.
