It's time the transport sector woke up to its responsibilities to address climate change

In February 2003, the Energy White Paper committed the UK to a 60% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 as a major contribution to the fight against climate change. A couple of other European countries have similar targets - the Dutch are aiming at a 50% cut by 2040 - but the British statement indicates the political concern at the scientific evidence. In the words of the Government's chief scientist, Sir David King: "Climate change is a greater threat than terrorism"....
