There are about 150,000 rail parking spaces across Britain. These generate annual revenues of about £130m. A significant sum, but small within the context of total rail “farebox” revenue of around £7bn. It is also worth noting that about 50% of rail parking spaces are currently free. Most UK rail stations do not depend on parking. In fact, only 2% have more than 500 spaces (see pie chart below).
