In his most recent annual report, Geoffrey Simms, eastern area traffic commissioner, expressed his frustration at only having one bus compliance officer to check on the reliability of all the operators in his patch. And having spent just one hour at the side of the road last week, seeing the UK’s biggest passenger transport operator run more than double the registered journeys on a competitive bus route in Norfolk, we find it easy to understand his concerns.
