Detailed plans for the transformation of Birmingham New Street station have been approved by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee. Work is expected to start later this year on phase 1 – a new concourse built on the former car park next to the station. This is planned to open in 2012 and phase 2 will then start with the closure of the existing concourse for redevelopment. The redeveloped station could be completed in 2015.
