Council blames the weather for bike hire flop

Scotland's first bicycle hire scheme attracted fewer than 50 members in the first ten weeks after launch.

Scottish transport minister Stewart Stevenson launched the £155,000 Bike2Go project in Dumfries in September.

But data released by Dumfries and Galloway Council show that by the end of October just 47 people had taken membership of the scheme and only 142 rentals of the 30 bikes had been made.
