Fatal crash will not halt 80mph consultation

This month’s M5 crash that killed seven and injured scores more will not stop the Government from consulting on raising the speed limit from 70 to 80mph, transport secretary Justine Greening has told MPs.

Police are still investigating the causes of the crash on the northbound carriageway of the M5 near Taunton.

During a debate in the House of Commons, a number of MPs said the crash should prompt the Government to rethink their plans to raise the limit.
