Summary of DfT case for HS2

The Department for Transport has set out detailed benefits which will be provided by HS2 including capacity increases, journey time savings, modal shift economic benefits and measures to protect the environment. They are summarised below.

HS2 will increase dramatically passenger capacity along the key transport corridors of Britain with up to 26,000 extra passenger seats each hour that will relieve congestion on existing intercity routes as well as roads and air routes.
