Graham Nalty is right about the time penalty to passengers of having to change stations in Birmingham for high-speed rail (Letters LTT 5 Jan). Other drawbacks of the proposed scheme are the eastern arm avoiding Leicester, and the excessive time for construction – 11 years over and above the planning process.
