Alstom has pulled out of the competition to supply the new Intercity Express Trains, leaving the Department for Transport with just two bidders. It leaves Hitachi and a consortium of Siemens, Bombardier and Angel trains competing for the contract. Bids are due to be submitted in May with the contract awarded next year.
