Some DfT civil servants lied to their superiors and ministers about the way the West Coast Main Line rail franchise competition was run, according to the House of Commons transport committee’s inquiry into the fiasco.
The committee notes that Sam Laidlaw’s review into the aborted award of the franchise to FirstGroup talked about officials making “inaccurate statements”. But the MPs are more blunt.
