Better cycle facilities won’t deliver continental trip rates

I see the logic of Mark Treasure’s response in LTT about bus stop bypasses (Letters LTT 25 Jan). Sadly, traffic, transport and the public do not behave in a logical manner. He says the bypass is simply a small section of a continuous segregated cycle lane and, no doubt, this is what the design says. However, if the lane is continuous, what about side roads, what about frontager unloading, and what does a cyclist do if they want to access premises on the other side of the road?
