New ways of detecting and prioritising cyclists at signalised junctions are now proven and ready to incorporate in traffic control systems, this week’s JCT Traffic Signals Symposium heard.

The moves have come in response to the growing inability of existing vehicle detection systems to pick up cyclists using traditional inductive loop and magnetometer approaches.
