Councillor stands down as MP candidate over unpaid parking fines

A prospective Labour parliamentary candidate has stood down after it emerged she owed more than £2,000 in unpaid parking fines and late payment fees.

Josie Channer was issued with the penalty charge notices in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, where she is a councillor who heads up the committee overseeing parking issues.

She was seeking to become the MP for Kingswood, near Bristol, which is currently a Conservative marginal seat.
