The Government’s policy of reducing fuel duty on road transport since 2010 has boosted the country’s GDP, according to modelling results published by the Treasury and HM Revenue and Customs.

Fuel duty raised £26.6bn in 2012/13 – well below the high of over £30bn in 1999/2000 –  and is the fifth largest source of government revenue.
