Road surface temperatures (RSTs) can be different to air temperatures. With this in mind, the Met Office can provide site specific, road surface forecasts to enable gritting contractors to identify the right time to grit their customers’ premises. 

There are many factors that affect how low temperatures fall overnight. Indeed, the temperature of the air, road, grass and even your car windscreen can be different, even in the same location.
