Number of Blue Badge prosecutions drops in England

English councils carried out 535 prosecutions for Blue Badge abuse in 2013/14, according to new statistics from the Department for Transport (DfT). This represents a drop compared with the previous two years, with 685 prosecutions taking place in 2012/13 and 586 in 2011/12.

The figures suggest that the highest number of prosecutions were in Hammersmith & Fulham, with 154. There were 45 thefts of Blue Badges in the London borough. Top of the table for stolen badges was Islington, with 103. However, the London borough did not reveal if it carried out any prosecutions in 2013/14. The previous year Islington reported that no prosecutions were carried out while 49 badges were stolen.

In 2013/14 there were also a high number of thefts in the London boroughs of Newham and Redbridge, with 80 and 79 respectively. Again, both authorities did not report how many prosecutions they carried out.

The DfT states that the figures fall outside the scope of National Statistics.
