Speed cameras are effective, safety researchers tell the police

Researchers have endorsed the continued use of fixed speed cameras by the police, saying evidence shows they are “very effective” at cutting collisions. 

TRL was appointed by the joint policing unit of Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary to review its approach to enforcement. The report, The effectiveness of roads policing strategies, focuses on four sets of behaviours: speeding; drink and drug driving;  mobile phone use; and non-wearing of seatbelts.
