Network Rail is to embark on a programme of asset sales to raise £1.8bn for its programme of rail enhancements, which is suffering from ballooning costs. The Government is also to increase NR’s borrowing limits by £700m.
The proposals were announced this week in NR chairman Sir Peter Hendy’s review of the current investment programme in England and Wales.
