Myles Barker has joined Evolt, a supplier of electric vehicle (EV) charge point manufacturer, as business development manager. Evolt is part of APT Controls and distributes EV systems produced by Circontrol.
Barker will be working with government funding schemes to help councils and private sector businesses to buy, install and maintain new EV charging equipment.
He was previously Cenex, the centre of excellence for low carbon and fuel cell technologies, where he was the technical specialist working on the Plugged-in Midlands project from start to completion for more than three years.
He also formed part of the secretariat for the UK Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Association (UK EVSE), where he wrote a charge point procurement guide for public and private sectors.
He has worked with more than 15 different borough, district and county councils. He helped to develop Wiltshire County Council’s ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV) strategy and assisted the London Borough of Hackney find sites for on-street rapid charge points. He also helped five different vehicle OEMs, including Daimler, Nissan, Renault, Toyota and Vauxhall, install charging infrastructure in the Midlands.
Justin Meyer, general manager for Evolt, said: “As councils increasingly focus on providing charge points for not only the public, but also the increasing number of council-owned and commercial electric vehicles, we want to be at the forefront of this demand,” he says. “By appointing Myles we have secured a specialist with a proven track record and considerable knowledge of the industry, and who is already incredibly well respected.”
