Clean Air Zones will be established in five English cities to meet European limit values on air pollution, the Government has confirmed, despite the UK’s impending withdrawal from the EU. 

Legislation to establish Clean Air Zones (CAZs) by 2020 in Birmingham, Derby, Leeds, Nottingham and Southampton was included in a revised air quality plan submitted to the European Commission last December by Defra, the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (LTT 08 Jan).
