Canadian engineering and construction group SNC-Lavalin has made a £2.1bn bid for UK multi-disciplinary consultant WS Atkins.
Atkins’ board has said it is prepared to recommend the indicative offer, which represents “real value to shareholders”.
SNC has until 1 May to make a firm offer.
A bidding war is possible. US engineering giant CH2M and Atkins held exploratory merger talks earlier this year, though CH2M did not table an offer.
