Long commutes cause poor health, high levels of stress and reduced productivity among workers, according to new research.

The study of more than 34,000 people working across all UK industries examined the impact of commuting on employee and productivity. It also looked into the effects of flexible and home working.

The research developed by the University of Cambridge, RAND Europe human resource consultant Mercer and health care provider VitalityHealth.
