Travis Kalanick has resigned as chief executive of the US Uber taxi ride-hailing app after pressure from shareholders. However, Kalanick will remain on the board of the firm.

Kalanick’s resignation follows a review of practices at the firm and scandals including complaints of sexual harassment. A number of key executives have left the company in the wake of scandals about sexual abuse and harassment.
