I am hoping the Healthy Streets Awards will really take off and become a national institution.  For this to happen we need to acknowledge that the job we do as public servants and consultants enhances lives and delivers tangible health benefits.  This event is a chance to share knowledge with peers in an open and inviting setting surrounded by innovative street design ideas.  Waltham Forest are at the forefront of embedding the ten Healthy Street Indicators into design practice so when the talking has finished you will have the opportunity to experience this positive transformation.  This event is a chance to be inspired by ideas and approaches that you can take back to your communities and areas of influence.

Everyone wants to live on a healthy street.

So come to learn how to sell this message and gain local support for your ideas.  The Healthy Streets approach offers the opportunity to reframe discussions about how streets perform and function, away from satisfying the needs of private car users and toward places where people from all walks of life are encouraged to walk, cycle and use public transport.  I hope this will be the first major transport conference in the UK without advice on how to drive there and where to park.

The Healthy Streets Awards take place at the end of Healthy Streets 2017.
