VW dismisses call to pay London congestion charge fees in wake of ‘Dieselgate’

Volkswagen has said it will not pay the £2.5m the Mayor of London claims the German carmaker owes in missed congestion charge payments, following the 2015 emissions-rigging scandal.

The ‘Dieselgate’ scandal saw VW admit about 11 million cars worldwide were fitted with a so-called ‘defeat device’, software that detects when an engine is being tested and changed performance to improve results.
