Great Western to lease tri-mode trains

Great Western Railway is to introduce tri-mode trains on services from spring next year. The 19 electric multiple units (Class 319) were built in the late 1980s for the Thameslink network and feature 25 kV AC overhead and 750 V DC third rail power supplies. Leasing company Porterbrook is now fitting the trains with diesel engines and reclassifying them as the Class 769 Flex.
