Transport for Wales mounts major recruitment drive

RECRUITMENT

Transport planning, data analysis and programme management are among the specialisms being targeted by Transport for Wales in a recruitment drive.

The Welsh Government-owned company recently completed procurement of an Operator and Development Partner for Wales and Borders rail services. The £5bn contract, awarded to KeolisAmey, includes electrification and other modernisation of the Core Valley Lines, which will transfer next year from Network Rail to Welsh Government.

Welsh transport secretary Ken Skates said last year that TfW would evolve to be similar to Transport for London and its staffing requirements would not be known until the rail procurement concluded. Now TfW is looking to fill 50 to 100 posts, based in South and North Wales. Offices in Pontypridd and Wrexham are being prepared for TfW.

Jeff Collins, TfW’s infrastructure director – operations, told LTT: “Transport for Wales is at a crucial stage of its development and recognises the importance of recruiting the right individuals. They will join a team that will shape the future of transport in Wales as we expand our capabilities in transport infrastructure and services delivery.

“We are recruiting across a wide range of areas and welcome CVs from applicants at all levels with the relevant experience.”

TfW lists a dozen specialisms where it has “current specific opportunities”, including project and programme managers, commercial and contract managers, transport planners and modellers, transport statisticians, Geographical Information System practitioners, social researchers and economists.

Applications are also invited for 23 specialisms that are listed separately but include some of the above. Some relate to rail electrification and civil engineering, others include change management, business case development, corporate governance and consultancy management.

There are also clues to TfW’s future diversification, with transport consultancy and advice likely to be needed for place-making, active travel, engineering and master planning.
