Hammersmith & Fulham to end use of bailiffs for collecting unpaid Council Tax

The London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham has adopted what it terms ethical debt, which include ending the use of bailiffs for Council Tax collection and helping residents avoid debt in the first place. The project will begin with former tenant arrears and housing benefit overpayments. Other types of debt will be phased in. This means the borough will use the agents to collect unpaid parking and road traffic penalties for the time being.
