Tees Valley Combined Authority mayor Ben Houchen has agreed in principle to buy Durham Tees Valley Airport from present owner Peel.
The agreement would see the CA buy Peel's 89 per cent shareholding in the airport and 819 acres of land for £35m. A parcel of land with outline planning permission for 350 homes will also be purchased for £5m.Conservative mayor Houchen has committed to stopping the planned housing development.
