Papers suggest workplace parking levies will hit motorists’ wallets hard

A story fed to The Times by motoring organisation the AA criticised councils’ plans for workplace parking levies but an editorial in the paper was very strongly in favour of the concept. Rik Thomas reports

On 19 January the lead story on the front page of The Times informed readers that they could soon be charged “£1,000 to park at work” because “motorists face new charges as councils prepare plans to tackle pollution”.

After explaining that: “A workplace parking levy is being considered by at least ten councils in England and Scotland to reduce traffic and pollution and to raise money for public transport”, The Times’ story then led with strong...
