Traditional lever handbrakes seem set to join the likes of manual windows, chokes and cassette players as relics from motoring’s past.
Fewer than a third of new cars in showrooms are fitted with manual handbrakes. Only 30% of models brought to market this year have done so with a handbrake – a 7% reduction on 2018, according to the CarGurus website.
Luxury marques such as Land Rover, Jaguar, Mercedes, Porsche and Lexus no longer sell any models with them.
