London Gatwick Airport is to install 4,000 sensors in its short-term car parks with the aim of alleviating vehicle congestion and to ensure a better flow of vehicles throughout the multi-storey structures.
Smart Parking will install vehicle detection sensors throughout five multi-storey car parks that are allocated for short-term parking.
The company will also install 33 LED directional signs in the car parks to provide real-time visibility of car park availability and directions to areas with available bays to motorists.
The solution makes use of Smart Parking’s SmartSpot gateways, which relay live parking events to SmartCloud, the company’s online smart city management platform.
SmartCloud will provide the airport with visibility of the usage, peaks and trends of the car parks. The airport can run detailed reports to help make future proof decisions based on real, accurate data.
The contract includes Smart Parking conducting system maintenance over a five-year term.
Gatwick is the UK’s second largest airport, with over 46 million passengers travelling through it each year.
