Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council is to consult on extending parking charges in Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Sowerby Bridge and West Vale from 18.00 until 20.00 and introducing charges on Sundays and Bank Holidays in Halifax town centre. The council says the additional charges will help combat climate change, improve air quality and public health. “Whilst the current [Covid-19] crisis has had a profound effect, there is a need to future-proof town centres to ensure sufficient space is available to support increased commercial activity, as well as addressing these wider imperatives,” said a report by officers. The council estimates the charges will generate additional revenue of £143,000 a year.
