The Sheffield City Region Combined Authority wants to extend tram-train operations to Doncaster.
Tram-trains operate between Sheffield and Rotherham Parkgate, making use of the South Yorkshire Supertram lines and the heavy rail network.
The combined authority says extending operations from Rotherham to Swinton and Doncaster is “critical to releasing capacity” on the existing rail network.
