Passenger train frequencies on much of Britain’s rail network are likely to be reduced for the long-term in response to  loss of patronage following Covid-19, industry leaders have said.

Network Rail chairman Sir Peter Hendy told a conference last week that about ten per cent fewer train services should run compared with the pre-pandemic timetable when lockdown restrictions to control the pandemic are lifted.
