With this issue of LTT we say farewell to the magazine’s long-serving and well-known editor Andrew Forster, who has decided to stand down after 20 years in the role.

From next issue Deniz Huseyin will move into the editor’s chair on an interim basis as acting editor. Deniz has worked with Landor LINKS for almost as long as Andrew, and has contributed regularly to LTT in the past, taking the helm on a number of occasions when Andrew has been on leave.

Deniz has also worked on LTT’s sister publication Parking Review, and edited a number of guides on specialist transport topics including placemaking, local traffic and neighbourhood management, active travel, innovative technologies and new energy sources for transport, including e-mobility.

Andrew’s departure comes after a long and distinguished contribution to the UK expert transport community, and we know he will be sadly missed. He has conscientiously and assiduously watched the changing local and regional transport scene over two decades, reported on all the significant developments in policy, practice and professional debate, and explored and challenged both established thinking and emerging ideas on many different topics and issues.

He has been a familiar figure at transport events and often an adept and enquiring chairman of discussions between speakers and panelists. We hope he will continue to be involved in LTT-related activities from time-to-time in the future.

Editorial Director

Local Transport Today/Landor LINKS

Andrew Forster writes: In many ways I am sad to leave the job. A little known fact about myself is that I spent many happy hours in childhood writing magazines for my own pleasure or to send to grandparents. I was always interested in factual material; indeed, one of my publications was called Did you know? I certainly didn’t know then that I would turn the interest into a career!

Most of LTT’s news coverage concerns ongoing stories, and so stepping down feels a bit like leaving a football match at half-time. But it will always be that way.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the loyal readers and advertisers of LTT, it wouldn’t exist without you. Special thanks to the letter writers – I always feared a letter drought but it never materialised. And my deep gratitude to Peter, whose ethos runs through these pages, from front to back.

That just leaves me to wish Deniz the very best with taking the publication forward, and keeping track of all the threads in this fascinating field of public policy.
