Hammersmith Bridge in west London has reopened pedestrians and cyclists.
The 134-year-old bridge was closed to motorists since April 2019 when critical faults in the cast-iron casing were found. It was closed entirely last August when cracks in the pedestals worsened during a heatwave. This presented a problem for the 12,000 pedestrians and 4,000 cyclists that were using it each day before the closure.
