After two years of enforced separation, LTT is delighted to advise that the 5th Annual Local Transport Summit will be taking place at the Brentford Lock Holiday Inn in the London Borough of Hounslow on Thursday and Friday 18/19 November.
So much has happened over the past months that we are sure LTT readers will relish the opportunity to again get together with fellow professionals and consider where things now stand in the local transport landscape, and how best to tackle the current and emerging challenges which are asking new questions of our expectations, approaches and decision-making and funding structures.
As we’re sure most of the LTT community will be well aware from either previously attending or hearing about this important event, the Summit brings together in a unique way senior people involved in UK local transport from a range of perspectives including political leaders and decision-makers, those responsible for strategy, system design and delivery within transport authorities, and others with a connection to the future of our local transport system as providers, advisors, researchers and activists. The event has the active support and engagement of the DfT and other significant professional bodies and is an important element of the LTT activity mix.
The Summit moves around the country and the host this year is the London Borough of Hounslow, who bring political, business and community leaders together, to create strategic visions for this diverse and multi-faced the area, within the context of the overall London transport matrix. It has been pioneering new thinking in land use/transport planning and mobility provision, including the 15 Minute Neighbourhood concept and pro-active parking management.
Our Summit content this year will embrace the strategic issues of post COVID behavioural change, climate change and decarbonisation (including alternative energy sources), new mobility choices and disruptive technologies, and the impact of new government initiatives such as Levelling Up and Future Mobility Zones etc.
As before, we have secured an exceptional range of speakers from inside and beyond the ‘transport establishment’, especially those bringing new thinking to integrated, sustainable and smart mobility, and new approaches to decision-making and resource allocation to better reflect financial and environmental realities, and community priorities.
The format of the event is a residential 24-hour ‘Chatham House rules’ discussion and participatory forum in a relaxed quality environment addressed by experts and including facilitated workshops. There is an evening reception and networking dinner at the end of the first day at which we will continue discussions prompted by the preceeding presentations and an address by an outside speaker, this year Garrett Emmerson, a leading transport planning practitioner who has been chief executive of the London Ambulance Service for the past four years, who will reflect on his experiences in this most challenging role and some lessons he has learnt.
Other key speakers include:
