Old Severn Bridge road could become an A road

The Welsh Government is considering removing motorway status from the original M4 leading to and crossing the Severn Bridge. The move would require agreement from the UK Government, since the road crosses the border with England.

The road became the M48 when the Prince of Wales Bridge and its approach roads were opened in the 1990s. Monmouthshire County Council would like the M48 reclassified in order to reduce the scale and cost of providing new access to relieve the B4255, which runs parallel...
