Tameside Council is set to reduce parking charges in Ashton-under-Lyne.

The reduction is aimed at minimising the disruption caused to local traders by work on the redevelopment of the town's Market Square.

The parking charge reduction marks a temporary reverse in stance as charges car parks across the borough were increased last September with some prices rising from £1 to £3.50.

Traders in the town have complained the higher charges last September drove shoppers away.
